Who would visit a Hearing Aid Acoustician?
Anyone over the age of twelve, with a perceived hearing loss, (frequently it is a partner or family member who first notices a change in hearing ability) can benefit from testing by a Hearing Aid Acoustician. The first steps include the taking of a case history and a variety of tests to establish if one’s hearing is below the optimal. The battery of tests, undertaken within a sound proof booth environment, can establish the level of hearing, the response to speech at both normal and amplified levels as well as which section of the ear is causing any loss that is identified. Initial consultation usually takes approximately one hour. Should the results be normal you simply have peace of mind that all is well, and if the tests do reveal a hearing loss, the Hearing Aid Acoustician can recommend a variety of steps which can include referral for medical intervention or the possible fitment of a variety of hearing instruments which would improve the quality of hearing and consequently the quality of life.

If the Hearing Aid Acoustician feels that a hearing instrument may be of benefit, factors such as the following influence the choice :
Lifestyle: Such as eating out in a noisy environment, attendance at large gatherings, going to the theatre and attendance at meetings.
Dexterity: The ability of the client to manipulate, clean, fit and care for the instrument correctly.
Budget: Personal budgets and medical aid recommended tariffs can and do influence fitting decisions, but it is usually possible to find a good match between effective fitment and suitable expense.
The above factors are all taken into account to find the best solution with the maximum likelihood of a positive outcome, better hearing and improved lifestyle being the result.
In our practice fittings can be performed on a trial basis to insure the satisfaction of our clients.
Trial fittings can be discussed with the Hearing Aid Acoustician and the possible (limited) costs of trial instruments will be explained. This greatly limits any financial risk in finding the correct solution for you. |
